Humby's Founder Story

The coffee date that changed everything.

"How can we be ourselves if everything we see in the media tells us to be someone else?"

"Younger, skinnier, sexier, more youthful! 😤"

Robyn had launched into a rant at the coffee shop...

And I (Harriet) was loving it...

"True beauty is when you're happy, healthy, and authentically yourself"

"But how can we achieve that when most haircare products are filled with chemicals? They make your hair more unhealthy... whilst claiming to do the opposite!"

I felt passion and frustration bubbling.

Passion to find a solution.

And frustration because my hair was damaged from surfing everyday.

Split ends. Brassiness. And frizz.

Robyn finally stopped to take a breath. So I chimed in...

"Yeah! And all of the haircare products come in plastic packaging."

We both paused for a second.

Sipped at our coffees... made eye contact... and communicated telepathically.

Humby was born.

Three major points guided Humby into existence...

1. Robyn's frustration with our current day beauty standards.

2. My passion to create products that leave the earth untouched.

3. And our shared desire for the absolute highest quality products.

Looking back now, it's kind of funny...

We had these huge ambitions despite having zero funds or resources 😅

I still remember that coffee date that stretched long into the afternoon...

Robyn would riff about using cold-pressed oils because they had the most nutrients.

I would riff about having no plastic waste.

She'd demand that the products be made in the USA for quality control.

I'd say... yeah in a solar powered factory!

It's almost five years since that conversation.

And the craziest part is that all of those initial ambitions have materialized.

The USA-made manufacturing, cold-pressed oils, zero waste packaging, solar-power warehouse (read more here)... it has all become a reality.

And that is all because of people like you.
